Hard Decision

posted by Tyrantmizar at 4:30 pm EST on October 22, 2005

I’ve stumbled upon (not with StumbleUpon, mind you) Blogsome. I’ve long been weary of the relative lack of customization Blogger had to offer. I even started to design Greasemonkey scripts to get around some of that (like adding categories).

But Blogsome is based off of WordPress, so it is naturally more powerful. I would have far more control over what my blog looks like and how it acts.

I will probably switch over soon. It would be better to do it sooner, rather than later, before I become too attached to this blog. It would be easier to repost all of my Blogger posts to Blogsome while the number is low too.

Commitment to Blog

posted by Tyrantmizar at 3:21 pm EST on

I’ve made a decision. It has taken about 10 months and two blogs to make the decision, but, indeed, I’ve still made it. I’ve decided to post regularly.

Anyone looking at my previous blog can easily see that I did not post with any regularity in mind. I often ignored the blog for weeks at a time, then posted 3 times in a single day, then ignored it for another week.

But no more.

I’ve resolved to post at least 5 days per week. Pros and cons with this are:
Pros

  • Better rankings, more readership, and therefore (I hope) more reader response.
  • Gives me up to 2 days a week that I can take a break. I could decide to post every day, 6 days, or 5 days. Gives me some freedom of choice.
  • Reduces my stress: Blogging helps me calm down and focus.

Cons

  • Gives me an excuse to distract myself in order to “find something to blog about.”
  • Requires that I uphold this commitment. I’m not good at keeping true to oaths like these. If, or rather when, I accidentally break this promise, I’ll go into a bit of a depression and not be in the mood to blog at all. I’ll have to find a way to get over it.

As you and I can both see, there are more pros than cons. Therefore, I’ll try it.

Thompson is Truly a Nutcase

posted by Tyrantmizar at 12:53 pm EST on

Advanced Media Network has a wonderful article about how wrong Jack Thompson is. He goes on to prove it by using the Constitution of America, and little more. He disproves many of Thompson’s ideas with pointing out that the Bill of Rights, part of the supreme law of the land in America, prohibits exactly what Thompson wants to do. The article is definitely worth a read.

One excellent quote:

I’ll be frank with you all, as always. As I write this, I’m in the midst of my third semester in college, sitting in the passenger seat of a car going east on Interstate 4 in Florida. Somehow I was able to come up with these four grounds on which Thompson’s arguments are made invalid. Surely as an established attorney with decades of experience, one would expect Mr. Thompson to have at least as much knowledge of constitutional law as I do. He claims in his letter to Governor Bush that he knows, “…what is constitutional and what is not in this vineyard. I certainly stand ready to help each of you and your staffs to defeat what will be well-funded and baseless assaults by this cash-flush industry that will come with any legislative success to protect kids.” Yet I’d like to point out that I’m on no one’s bankroll in the gaming industry, my “assaults” are based on Constitutional fact and that Thompson’s claim to be a constitutional expert is apparently skewed.
